Dr. Farhat is the principal resource person on gender equality issues, practices, and policies relevant to the High Commission’s development program. She has been working in the area of gender and women’s empowerment for over 25 years in senior management and advisory positions. Previous assignments have been with international organizations such as Oxfam and The Asia Foundation, with UN organizations including UNDP, UNFPA and UN Women, and with the Pakistan government – at NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) and ERRA (Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority).
She was Gender Advisor for GAC for four years from 2015 to 2019 and joined again in the same capacity in December 2020. While primarily responsible for ensuring gender integration in GAC’s Women’s Voice and Leadership Project and the Kashf Women’s Economic Empowerment Project, she provides technical input into all other areas of GAC’s portfolio, such as health, education and WPP as and when required. Her responsibilities include contributing to the preparation of strategic program documents by providing country context gender analysis and identifying potential risks and opportunities for GE specific and integrated new programming. She is also the lead person for the INGAD group, which is co-led by GAC and UN Women.
